I don't need to hear the truth.

I just need to hear a beautiful lie.

Cambodia was crazy fun! I'm really sorry for getting you all so worried.. I really have nothing to say to defend myself.. I promise that I will not do anything like that ever again.. sorry

Cambodia was very eye-opening. It's a country that is much less developed than any other city that I've been to before. I know.. I'm spoiled. I've only gone to all very highly industrialized cities.. and I figured that Cambodia is as good as any country to start actually SEEing the world~ It was there, that I got a lot of clutter that had been bothering me for the past week.

We got to Changi Airport at around 4:30am~ We went to get our boarding pass only to find the Penelope's bag was too heavy to take as a carry-on~ So, her bag was taken.. the problem was that she wasn't prepared for that to happen and all her important documents to prove her identity was not with her when we needed it. They took her away for a good half-hr or more.. and I was worried to death! You know all the stories about how Singapore canes people.. I was starting to imagine that they were interrogating her as if she was a huge criminal .. good thing they didn't do anything~ Only made her retrieve her documents. Yay!

This is Frank~ I'm going all Jap while travelling!! PHOTOS!!

Killing time while waiting for Penelope to get back:

While I was reading up on what to expect from Cambodia on the sites, all the sites make it sound like they have mutated mosquitoes that will eat you up.. so I went expecting that all the mosquitoes must carry diseases and that one bite from them would be the kiss of death and I would get malaria.. ><  Not true. Less mosquitoes than China.

Ever since we got off a plane and into a taxi to take us to Siem Reap.. it was completely 'sensory overload' (I can't find a better way to describe it other than Mario's words). I didn't know what to say.. it was all I could do to keep up with what my eyes were seeing and not just faint. Take a look at it yourself:

DSC02039

The sand is everywhere.. every direction that you look is this sand.. I truly regret only wearing sandles to a place like this.. my feet were just wading through the sand.. I guess they don't have the money to fix the roads? Not very often would there be an actual sidewalk either..

Lots of children that follows you around everywhere.. children wanting you to buy things from them or just want to talk for no reason.. you know that their parents are nearby.. and they are waiting for the child to take money back to them.. What to do? You want to help the kid but yet if you give them money, there will probably be only a small fraction of it actually being used on the child.. and it will only teach the adults that are controlling the child that this way of earning a living is ok because they are still able to get money and not attempt to find another way of surviving.. yet if you don't give money to the child you don't know if the child will live till tommorrow from the hunger.. so.. what to do? In the end we just didn't talk or give any money to them. One of them managed to freak Penelope out completely ^^ We were having diner and were just sitting around. I came back from the washroom and saw a child had been standing next to her.. I just assumed that they were talking or something, but apparently Penelope had not known that there was a kid next to her and freaked her out completely~~ hahahah~~~~

Everywhere that we went we took a Touq Tous (I'm not sure if I'm spelling it right). It's basically a carriage that's pulled by a motorbike~ Some feel really unstable.. but it was fun!! The more unstable ones, Penelope and I could not stop screaming at every car that came at us and every bump in the road! The roads itself was crazy! Absolutely no rules!  You can drive on whatever side of the road you want, you can drive an American steering style car or a British steering style car.. you don't have to have a license plate for the car if you don't want to, you cross large intersections by ploughing through it.. I didn't even see very many street lights! Now, imagine that you are completely exposed and had nothing more than a few metal pipes to hold on to.. which aren't even meant for you to hold onto for safety.. only meant to hold the cover up! Scary neh!! Stupid Frank and Mario found our reactions amusing >< When we had to go by foot and cross the road, that was when experience in crossing roads in China came in handy! Yeh!!! I KNEW that I risked my life that many times for a reason!

The temples are really breath-taking... Please look at the photos.. I don't even want to attempt to put things into words

We went to a Landmines Museum. It was awful. Bummed me out for most of the remaining day.. but once we got to shopping, my mood quickly lifted.. I feel horrible about that too.. but I can't help it. The Landmines Museum is ran by a sole man. It is not the typical museum within a nice building and air-con and charges an obscene amount for entry. It's outdoors and it's at the end of a really long dusty bumpy rocky road. Entry is only by donation. This man dedicates his life to removing the landmines that have been scattered all over Cambodia during the war that took place for a decade and only ceased fire in 1998. It takes UN $500 US to remove one land-mine. He takes out 3 an hour and does not have any pay. The area around the museum is where all the children and people that have been affected by the land-mines live. Everywhere you see people that are missing limbs, yet they are really happy and smiley more sincerely than a lot of people that i know..

Add me on Face Book if you want to see all the pics (name is Barbara Tang)!!!  Xanga is totally pissing me off!! grrrrrrrr.. takes FOREVER to upload one picture ...

I can't wait till Phillipines trip!!

This week has been a very interesting week.  Already I feel like I've just gotten off a roller-coaster~  The place where I'm staying is where most exchange kids stay and I've met a few really great people here~

It's not till now that I really know how small my world is and how sheltered I've been my whole life till now.  Everyone comes from a different background and country!  Growing up in Richmond has really kept me in a bubble with its limited diversity in people.  I think that I've met more non-Asian kids here than my whole Uni life in Vancouver!  So many exchange kids are so well-travelled!  Their stories sound like fairy-tales of a mysterious land far away, full of mystery and hidden dangers..a test of wits and survival.. and yet they have braved all dangers and returned home safely.. I can't wait to go travelling too!!  Makes me regret spending so much time working to save up money and not enough time socializing~  Yes!!  You!!  Stop your work and start going out with different people!!  You'll learn much more than you'll ever learn through books!!

Being on my own here is very different.  In Vancouver I almost never went anywhere on my own~  My Sor Lo would always be with me and I don't have to pay attention to much and still get to places in one piece and get the things done in the way that Sor Lo thinks is efficient.  Now... here.. I realize that I really don't mind doing all that on my own.. at first it was odd, not having someone next to me to chat with.. but now I realize that I can manage myself and everything perfectly fine!~  With my two bibles (1 bus stop guide and 1 map book) I can do no wrong.  Went shopping a few times on my own too (*gasp*) and loved it!!  It's different.. but not any less fun than shopping with Sor Lo ^^

Signed up to do and did many things that I normally wouldn't do or just don't have the time to do much~  Can't wait to try everything!!~  So far, on my list of activities that I have yet to do includes kayak/canoeing, cake-baking, cooking a full 5-course meal (as long as it doesn't involve gravy I think I'll be fine), MTV pop dancing, and mentoring at elementary school (I miss my kiddies too much.. I figured that this would help).. So excited!!

Singapore is odd.. taking some time to get used to.. nothing that actually bugs me a whole lot but there are still small things that don't settle with me quite right.. more on this after spending more time here~ for now.. I can't really imagine living here permanently yet..

I'm not sure how to feel about this, but I'm enjoying every bit of everything! ^^

PS - hahahaha~~ yes.. I still think that British accent is sexiest!!

i had a huge blast in hk and gz~ my aunts and uncles r so fun to b w/~ totally not like their age at all! my cousins r really cool too~ the younger ones at 12 and 14 are espeically adorable! the one that's 12 yrs old is so impossible to not love! she's an amazing dancer and has a great child-like naivety that makes her so precious!~

the one at 14. hahaha~~~ 14 is a hard time to go thru.. especially for her cuz she's got a full 20 pairs of eyes on her.. this is her:

the guy cousin that is closest to me in age i hadn't really gotten a chance to talk to personally before until this time~ actually spent a whole day talking to him and a few more shopping days too!~ the weird part is that it didnt' feel like i was talking to someone that i've never actually talked to, but felt like i was just talking to an old friend and just catching up~ this is him~ he used to look a lot more like nicholas tse.. but now i think that he's just hot on his own.. this isn't a good pic of him.. halfway thru blinking~ but largest pic i do i have so far:

coey.. the cousin that i was always closer with.. felt much more distant.. and it seems to be a growing trend.. it really bugs me too.. i guess it makes sense for family to come 2nd after a possible bf.. this is her and the little one at sing k:

everyday was eat, eat, shop, eat!~ so fun!! so many great foods in gz!! seems like there's even more food there than in hk~ i think i gained a few extra pounds tho.. ><

btw~ i got a few red highlights in my hair cuz it was so cheap! afterwards i found that it was cheap for a reason.. the guy didn't do a good job at all.. it's really uneven.. and doesn't evenlook like it was done on pupose either~ just looks like he screwed up and didn't know what he was doing.. better get Ako to fix it when i get  back.
